Introduction to SONET and SONET Architecture

This course provides a detailed explanation of the capabilities of SONET and how SONET networks operate to provide a wide variety of highly reliable services. Students will acquire an in-depth understanding of the structure of the SONET frame, the use of the SONET overhead bytes, the components of a SONET network, the transport and multiplexing of services and the operation of automatic protection switching.

Upon completion of this course the learner will be able to describe all of the steps necessary to build an STS-1 frame using DS1 frames as payload.
